Jesmonite

How to work with Jesmonite AC100

Here are some simple steps to keep in mind when crafting with Jesmonite.

  • Prepare the surface you are going to work on, protect it with plastic against drops and splashes of paint.
  • Use protective equipment, glasses, gloves, breathing mask, non-sore clothing
  • Have the molds ready, Jesmonite sets quickly.
  • Small scale to weigh the ingredients on.
  • Ready
  • Weigh out the liquid part in one container and the powder in another, eg 100g liquid + 250g powder. (Ratio 2.5)
  • Mix the powder into the liquid, a little at a time, I use a regular whisk, wooden spatula or Jesmonite mixer.
  • Stir until you see no lumps.
  • The color is very rough, a toothpick dipped in color stains a lot. Try your way a little at a time, (or one drop at a time if you bought paint with a dropper cap from us)
  • Pour into the mold you have chosen, tap the mold to remove air bubbles, bubbles on the surface can be blown away with a straw.
  • Leave for 25 minutes, do not leave the mold for too long, then the Jesmonite will start to sweat.
  • The jesmonite is fragile after 25 minutes, when you mold it, it needs to be airy on the mold, for example, and harden for 24 hours.
  • After 24 hours you can sand with sandpaper, either dry or with water.
  • Use sealer or wax if liquid may get on your finished Jesmonite product,
  • Do not allow the first coat of Jesmonite Sealer to dry completely before applying the second coat.
